Ronen was a Hungarian born British\/Israeli artist who made site specific, architectural scale works in vitreous enamel on steel. \u003c\/span\u003eCommissions included work for Denys Lasdun's South Bank and collaborative works with \u003cspan\u003eMoshe Safdie. Vera Ronnen’s work combined medieval and modern industrial enameling techniques. Enamel colours were applied by a sieve to steel in several subtle translucent layers, followed by multiple firings, resulting in a depth that is unique to her process. This piece is an abstract geometric composition featuring faceted crystalline forms in opaque and transparent layered cool blues and greens, with patches of warmer layered pigment. Ronnen's work reminds me of German artist Paul Klee (1879-1940) and his Bauhaus experiments with crystalline structures, faceted geometry, radiant light, and layered colour theory. Beautifully made: the substrate is folded steel with neat welded corners. Please note, there are small welded tabs to rear suggesting it might have been originally designed to be hung vertically. I see it as a horizontal piece (and it is signed horizontally) but have also included images of it hung upright.
