An early 1990s hand cast and finished heavy pewter frame by the South African artist and designer Carrol Boyes (1954-2019). The sculptural form features scrollwork feet (a recurring motif in early Carrol Boyes); the frame has riveted studs and cross hatched inscribed lines; the back is beautifully detailed with an integral scrolled stand and a glazed insert. Stamped to rear 'C. Boyes S.Africa'. Carrol Boyes was originally a sculptor and designed playful everyday objects which she referred to as 'functional art'. Please see photos and condition description.

Size: Overall 23cs wide, 18cms tall, 6.5cms deep approximately; the glazed window is approximately 15cms wide, 10cms tall.

Condition: Handmade imperfections and casting irregularities, tool marks; the glass insert has irregular edges (not visible when inserted); occasional light scratches and scuffs otherwise in very good vintage condition.
