An early 1990s hand cast and finished heavy pewter frame by the South African artist and designer Carrol Boyes (1954-2019). The sculptural form features a four-pointed crown crest and undulating scroll and wave relief patterns (the scroll was a recurring motif in early Boyes work); the back is nicely detailed with an integral stand and corner brackets and has a glazed insert. Stamped to rear 'C. Boyes S.Africa'. Carrol Boyes was originally a sculptor and designed playful everyday objects which she referred to as 'functional art'. Her early work was first modelled in clay before being hand cast in metal. Please see photos and condition description.
Size: Overall 15.5cms tall, 10.5cms wide, 3cms deep approximately; the glazed window is approximately 8.8cms tall, 5.8cms wide).
Condition: Handmade imperfections and casting irregularities; tool marks; shape irregularities and imperfections; light marks; scratches and scuffs, the glass insert has irregular edges (not visible when inserted), the back board is worn and slightly smaller than the glass at the back.
