Pochoir is a highly refined technique of making fine limited editions of stencil prints. It is often called hand colouring. Jean Saudé was one of the foremost artists to explore and promote pochoir techniques in his Paris studio in the 1920s and 30s.
‘Fleurs et Masques’ depicts Cubist still lives, harlequin musicians and the masks and theatrics of the Commedia dell’ Arte in whimsical compositions (almost resembling playing cards) but at the same time sacred and profane.
Condition: This is in good but not excellent condition and would benefit from a little cleaning and restoration. Sellotape to back edges; pencil inscription to front margin and back (which appears to be a signature but I am doubtful it is by the artist); foxing to back and edges; light surface wear; some very light buckling to edges; some surface imperfections, tone an surface variation, some light surface scuffs and marks otherwise generally in good condition. Please see photos.
Postage: This print will be sent flat between two boards, with Royal Mail special delivery.
