A pair of 1980s brutalist sculptural table mat/trivet/tray/salvers suitable as a decorative piece on a table or desk. Made from pieced hexagonal hand sand cast brass and aluminium. Lovely casting imperfections, obviously hand made tactile qualities and a hand filed and filled finish. Trademark leather underside. Fabricated by the artist, designer and sculptor David Marshall (b. 1942) in Spain in the 1980s, these were sourced in Scotland (David Marshall is originally from Edinburgh). Size: 28cms x 32cms x 0.5cms approx. Heavy, each weighs nearly 2kg.
Condition: Uncleaned and unpolished with slightly dull patina with some tone variation and darkening. Light scratches, scuffs, tarnish and marks. Shape and finish differences between the two (each has been individually hand cast and assembled). In obviously handmade condition with associated imperfections and obvious hand finishing. The leather underside is worn and marked with colour variation between the two. These pieces are not stamped by the artist. Please see photos.
